Innovations and Interventions


  • Included the war against corruption as one of its Legislative Agenda.
  • Initiated holding a public hearing on the national budget.
  • Passed the Witness Protection Programme Bill 2015.
  • Passed the Federal Auditor Service Commission Bill.
  • Opened up the Budget of the National Assembly for the first time in 19 years in 2018 when he directed the National Assembly Management to publish the details of the Budget.


  • Introduced commercial farming by establishing Shonga farms and inviting 11 commercial farmers from Zimbabwe.
  • Initiated the first comprehensive state census of farmers.
  • Trained and supplied rice farmers with necessary production inputs through the Outgrowers Scheme.

Infrastructure Development

  • Revived the Ilorin International Airport to its full potential, serving as a serious economic hub, creating real jobs and opportunities.
  • Established the International Aviation College, Ilorin to train world class pilots and technicians with a prime focus on efficiency and safety.


  • Re-energised the Ganmo Power Station in Ilorin.
  • Initiated and completed seven 15 MVA substations.
  • Installed 725 Power transformers in various parts of the state.
  • Advanced rural electrification projects at Agbeyangi, Kpada, Gaa Lanba, Gaa Gata, Eleyele, Pututa, Bizera, and Okutala, and many more.

Community Leadership

  • Assembled a team of medical personnel and representatives from gender-based groups and others to distribute food and critical supplies to those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Provided financial and material support for farmers.
  • Ensured high performing students are supported through stipends, housing, and assistance with fees.
  • Actively participates in the global climate effort and the fight for our planet.
  • Offered appropriate types of training, giving workers real opportunities to make it in the competitive and ever changing labour market.
  • Partnered with the Ilorin Emirate Descendant Progress Union (IEDPU) Youth Wing to deliver the ‘Access to Healthcare’, a community wide programme that closed the gap of financial hardship and out-of-pocket spending for Nigerians.

Senator Representing Kwara Central in the 7th National Assembly

  • Championed the passage of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency Amendment (NOSDRA) Bill.
  • Fought to solve the issue of the lead poisoning crisis in the mining areas of Zamfara State as well as on the initiative for the Great Green Wall.
  • Put a spotlight on Nigeria in the global scheme of addressing desertification, deforestation, forest conservation, and reduction in black carbon emission.
  • Intervened on the issue of management of spiralling subsidy payments on petrol.

Urban Regeneration and Housing

  • Established the Kwara State Housing Corporation.
  • Creation of state agencies like Surveyor General’s Office, Land Information System (LIS), the Bureau of Lands, and the Kwara Geographic Information System (KWAGIS).
  • Constructed 10 new housing estates.
  • Redeveloped two key markets, Oja Oba and Kulende.
  • Launched the ‘Clean and Green’ scheme, waste management, and environmental beautification project.

Gender Development

  • Ensured that women filled at least 30% of the seats in the Kwara State House of Assembly as Governor from 2003 to 2011.
  • In 2010, all the 16 LGA Councils in Kwara elected all LGA Councils elected all female Vice-Chairperson. Ilorin West and Ilorin South were led by female Chairpersons.

Governance and Accountability

  • Instituted a process of ensuring the government derived the benefit of increased revenue from its socio-economic investments.
  • Instituted a project monitoring system that made sure all government ministries and agencies had at least two evaluation processes.
  • Approved Intercontinental Bank, FinBank, and Bank PHB to support and handle e-payment for salaried pensions and other payments from the state.


Established the Kwara Football Academy, the first-ever football training institution in Nigeria, to identify and train young talents.
